British intelligence analyzes new Russian assault attempts near Kupiansk
The Russian army has intensified its offensive near Kupiansk. Russian forces have advanced to the Oskil River, according to the UK Ministry of Defence on X.
British intelligence reports that south of Kupiansk, Russian forces have advanced to the Oskil River, severing Ukrainian logistics lines on the eastern bank of the river.
The Russian grouping south of Kupiansk is expanding. Russia is attempting to increase pressure on Ukrainian forces in the area.
Residents of Kupiansk and surrounding regions have already been evacuated. According to preliminary estimates, about 4,000 civilians remain in the area, down from 27,000 before the full-scale war.
British intelligence highlights that Kupiansk is strategically important as a transport hub and logistics center. Ukrainian forces regained control of the city in September 2022.
Russian activity near Kupiansk
Recently, Ukrainian forces repelled a large-scale attack on Kupiansk. Some Russian assault troops disguised themselves in Ukrainian military uniforms. The occupiers launched their attack in four waves.
The DeepState service reported that some Russian soldiers fled to houses in Kupiansk after their equipment was destroyed. According to local authorities, the occupiers were eliminated and failed to establish a foothold in the city.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasizes that Kupiansk remains under the control of Ukraine's Defence Forces.
