Britain persuades Germany to transfer Taurus missiles to Ukraine
The British government has privately urged Germany to provide the Ukrainian government with long-range Taurus missiles, according to Bloomberg.
Sources report that high-ranking British ministers and officials have repeatedly signaled to Germany the acute need for Taurus missiles in Ukraine.
London has proposed a solution in response to Berlin's resistance to their shipment, including a swap agreement wherein Britain would supply Kyiv with more of its own Storm Shadow missiles, and Germany would then replenish Britain's stockpile with long-range Taurus missiles.
Germany must cease its justifications, asserted one British official speaking on condition of anonymity to avoid discussing private conversations between the nations.
Taurus for Ukraine
Ukraine had called on Germany last year to commence the transfer of long-range Taurus missiles. This plea arose due to shipments of Storm Shadow/SCALP missiles to Ukraine from Britain and France.
The primary obstacle to Taurus for Ukraine has been the stance of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, as he is concerned that such armaments could be used to strike Russian territory.
Additionally, the chancellor has said that if German military personnel were involved in guiding missiles to their targets, it could constitute direct German involvement in the war.
