Britain not to allow Ukraine to strike Russia without US approval - The Times
Britain will not allow Ukraine to use long-range weapons to strike Russia without US approval. To alter this decision, approval from the United States is required, according to The Times.
The Times notes that recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed to the US and the UK to overcome their fears and demonstrate resolve on this issue.
Furthermore, it has emerged that five former British defense ministers and former heads of government have urged current Prime Minister Keir Starmer to allow Ukraine to target deeper into Russia using Storm Shadow missiles. They argued that any delay would only embolden Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
However, according to The Times, the UK will not act unilaterally, as American guidance systems are deemed crucial for ensuring that the missiles (Storm Shadow long-range cruise missiles) hit their targets.
The British government believes that the US will likely give the green light at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Meanwhile, there are still internal disagreements within the Biden administration.
