Blackout in Spain: Full restoration of power supply to take from 6 to 10 hours

The power outage in Spain is "exceptional and absolutely extraordinary." Full restoration of the energy supply may take from 6 to 10 hours, El Pais reports.
According to the media outlet, the causes of the power outage are still unknown. The energy company Red Electrica is investigating the reasons for the incident.
Eduardo Prieto, the Director of Operations at Red Electrica, stated that the failure is "exceptional and absolutely extraordinary." He said that it will take from 6 to 10 hours to resolve the issue, meaning that the power supply will not be fully restored by this evening.
Red Electrica reported that the power outage forced the suspension of all rail traffic, affected air travel, caused disruptions in public transport, and even disabled traffic lights in many areas.
The power outage is also impacting other infrastructure and services: supermarkets are warning that they will only accept cash, and people have had to be rescued from trapped elevators.
Blackout in Europe
On Monday, April 28, several European countries began reporting large-scale power outages.
Power cuts have been observed in Spain, Portugal, Andorra, and one region of France. The causes of the outage are currently unknown.
Meanwhile, Portugal's national electricity company, REN, has suggested that a fire in the southwest of France, on Mount Alaric, could be a possible cause. The fire damaged a high-voltage power line between Perpignan and eastern Narbonne.
A cyberattack is also being investigated as a potential cause.
