Biden prepares for talks, but world’s attention shifts to Trump and Harris - AP
US President Joe Biden is set to embark on an intense round of foreign policy activity. However, allies are already shifting their focus from him to presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, according to AP.
As reported, on Friday, Biden will begin an intense schedule, focusing on international allies concerned about the future of US foreign policy when he leaves office in four months. It’s widely expected that he will leave behind a series of complex crises for either former President Donald Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris to tackle.
Despite Biden’s preparations for a week of meetings with global leaders in Delaware, the White House, and at the United Nations, the world’s attention has already started to shift toward Trump and Harris. This is due to the starkly different foreign policy visions they are offering voters and the global community.
Jon Alterman, a senior vice president at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, noted that Biden’s upcoming meetings with world leaders might feel like a sideshow, as most of the world is now focused on Harris and Trump.
What does it mean
A key example is Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is set to meet with all three figures individually.
Additionally, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet with both Biden and Trump, while UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will hold talks with both Biden and Harris.
Zelenskyy to present Biden with a victory plan
Next week, Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to present Joe Biden with a victory plan for Ukraine, which outlines swift decisions from October to December. According to the Ukrainian president, most of these decisions hinge on the current US president.
