Biden announces new military aid package for Ukraine: What's included
Today, on October 16, US President Joe Biden announced another package of military aid to Ukraine. It includes weapons worth a total of $425 million, according to the press service of the White House and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
As stated by the White House, President Biden announced a new military aid package for the Ukrainian Armed Forces following talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The package includes air defense systems, air-to-ground munitions, armored vehicles, and "critical munitions."
Additionally, the White House confirmed that in the coming months, Ukraine will receive additional weapons from the US, including hundreds of air defense interceptors, dozens of tactical air defense systems, more artillery systems, a large amount of ammunition, hundreds of armored personnel carriers, infantry fighting vehicles, and thousands of armored vehicles.
Zelenskyy, in turn, updated Biden on his victory plan. Both leaders instructed their teams " to engage in further consultations on next steps."
Following the talks, Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to Biden, both US political parties, and the American people for the new package, which includes "new air defense systems and long-range weapons."
US aid to Ukraine
At the end of September, the US announced two new military aid packages for Ukraine in one day.
The first package, worth $375 million, will come from US stockpiles, while the second, valued at $2.4 billion, is a part of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) and will be purchased from the defense industry.
Notably, Ukraine will receive Joint Stand-off Weapon (JSOW) cruise bombs from the US for the first time. According to aviation expert Valerii Romanenko, these bombs can be considered a response to the Russian guided bombs.
