US allocates new $375 million aid package to Ukraine: Details
The Biden administration has announced additional defense assistance for Ukraine, sanctioning a package worth $375 million, according to the White House.
In a statement, the Biden administration emphasized that the additional security aid announced today by the Pentagon is aimed at ensuring Ukraine has the tools necessary to prevail in its fight against Russian aggression.
The White House explained that this includes the sanctioning of a Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) package valued at $375 million, providing Ukraine with additional capabilities to meet its most pressing needs.
These include air-to-surface munitions, ammunition for rocket and artillery systems, armored vehicles, and anti-tank weapons, the White House added.
The aid package includes:
- Air-to-ground munitions;
- Ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS);
- 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition;
- Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided (TOW) missiles;
- Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems;
- M1117 Armored Security Vehicles;
- Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) Vehicles;
- Light tactical vehicles;
- Armored bridging systems;
- Small arms;
- Patrol boats;
- Demolitions equipment and munitions;
- Spare parts, ancillary equipment, services, training, and transportation.
The White House noted that this is the 66th equipment tranche provided by the Biden administration from US Department of Defense stockpiles since August 2021.
Yesterday, Western media reported that the United States plans to announce aid for Ukraine amounting to over $8 billion. This announcement is expected to occur on September 26 during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to Washington.
Additionally, according to Politico, the Biden administration has found a workaround to expand presidential authorities for sending weapons and equipment to Ukraine worth $5.9 billion.
