Biden and Starmer reaffirm support for Ukraine in fight against Russian aggression
President Joe Biden held a meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, where the leaders reaffirmed their support for Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression, according to the White House website.
The discussion covered a range of foreign policy issues of mutual interest. The leaders confirmed their steadfast support for Ukraine as it continues to defend itself against Russian aggression.
Additionally, they expressed deep concern over the provision of lethal weapons to Russia by Iran and North Korea, as well as China's support for Russia's defense industry.
President Biden and Prime Minister Starmer also reiterated their unwavering commitment to Israel's security, the urgent need for a ceasefire agreement to release hostages, and to enhance aid to the Gaza Strip.
The leaders also emphasized the need for Israel to do more to protect civilians and address the dire humanitarian situation in the region. They condemned attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels on commercial shipping in the Red Sea.
Ukrainian strikes on Russian military targets
Ukraine has long called on the US and the UK to lift restrictions on the use of long-range Western missiles against military targets in the Russian rear.
On September 11, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy visited Kyiv. They discussed this issue with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
However, the White House has assured that the US prohibition remains in place, and the Biden administration's policy on this matter remains unchanged.
There is a possibility that Putin may respond to the authorization of strikes on Russian territory with sabotage against American military forces.
