European partners continue shaping a post-war security architecture for Ukraine, discussing specific military and political support mechanisms within an international coalition, according to a post by Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever on X.

Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever said that Belgium is ready to contribute to ensuring peace in Ukraine after the war ends.

According to him, the relevant arrangements were discussed during a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in Paris.

"Today’s meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in Paris was productive and decisive. Together with a broad coalition of partners, Belgium will take on its share of international efforts towards safeguarding peace in Ukraine, once hostilities have ended," Wever emphasized.

Military contribution and training

The Belgian prime minister said his country’s participation will focus on areas where Belgium has clear capabilities.

"Our contribution will focus in particular on providing air and maritime capabilities as well as efforts in the area of training, where Belgium can deliver tangible and meaningful impact," said Bart De Wever.

US role in security guarantees

De Wever separately emphasized the importance of US leadership, noting that the international coalition’s efforts would rely on strong support from the United States.

He added that future monitoring of the security situation is expected to be carried out under US leadership, which should help deter Russia from renewed aggression and contribute to long-term regional stability.

Earlier, Germany signaled readiness to contribute to a potential ceasefire framework in Ukraine, but without commitments to deploy German troops on Ukrainian territory. Following the meeting of the so-called Coalition of the Willing, Chancellor Friedrich Merz made clear that Berlin’s approach differs from that of London and Paris: participation would be limited to support and international security mechanisms, without automatic troop deployment.

During talks in Paris, Ukraine and the United States, within the coalition framework, agreed on specific steps to implement and monitor a ceasefire. However, further progress depends on Russia’s position, which has not yet confirmed its readiness to comply with these arrangements.
