Ukrainian defenders on the Kramatorsk direction are holding back Russian assaults near Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region, contradicting Kremlin claims of the city’s capture, Chief Sergeant of the Fire Support Company of the 5th Separate Assault Brigade Yurii Syrotiuk reports.

“We are currently on the Chasiv Yar direction, where Putin personally claimed that the city had been taken. In reality, the enemy has been unsuccessfully attempting to attack this small city since 2023. Before the war, fewer than 10,000 people lived here. The fighting is intense, but the Russians have achieved no strategic success,” Syrotiuk said.

According to the Chief Sergeant, Russian forces operate in small infantry groups, trying to penetrate Ukrainian positions, plant a flag, and use these incidents for propaganda purposes.

“There’s this phenomenon where one or two enemies try to get behind us, plant their flag, and declare the capture of another settlement. This is not true. Yes, the situation is difficult, but the front line has not been broken. Ukrainian society should not fall for such reports,” Syrotiuk emphasized.

Ukrainian military stressed that similar attempts by the Russians occurred in previous years, but did not change the overall operational situation on the front.

Situation in Chasiv Yar

On July 31, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed the capture of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region.

Ukrainian military immediately denied Russian claims and exposed their lies, explaining the current situation in Chasiv Yar.

It turned out that the Russians even had to deploy “heavy artillery.”

On August 1, the Russian President Vladimir Putin publicly lied about the capture of Chasiv Yar live on air. Even that did not help: the Ukrainian Armed Forces promptly refuted Putin’s nonsense.
