Russia announces capture of Chasiv Yar in Donetsk region: Khortytsia group denies

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated about the capture of the city of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region. This information does not correspond to reality, according to Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the operational-strategic group Khortytsia.
What the Russian Ministry of Defense declared
"As a result of offensive actions by the Southern group of troops in the Kramatorsk-Druzhkivka direction, the city of Chasiv Yar of the Donetsk People's Republic has been liberated," declared the Russian terrorist Ministry of Defense today, July 31, around 08:00.
Operational-strategic group Khortytsia denied it
Instead, the Ukrainian military refuted the enemy's statement.
"The situation in Chasiv Yar is the same as in recent months. The Russians are simply lying again precisely so that it spreads even in the form of denials," said to RBC-Ukraine the spokesperson of the operational-strategic group Khortytsia.
At the same time, according to data from the Ukrainian OSINT project DeepState as of July 30, the eastern and northern parts of the city are under the control of Russian troops.

Battles for Chasiv Yar
The battle for Chasiv Yar began back in April 2024. As a result of shelling, the city was almost completely destroyed.
The city is located between Bakhmut and Kostiantynivka and lies on high ground. In its eastern part, there is a canal, convenient for defense. After the Russians captured Bakhmut in 2023, they continued their offensive westward, towards Chasiv Yar.
Chasiv Yar is a key transportation hub for Ukrainian troops, which connects Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions. The newspaper The New York Times called this city "the key to Donbas", as it is located on high ground and its capture would allow Russian troops to advance towards Kramatorsk and other settlements.
Currently, urban battles in Chasiv Yar continue. Russian troops have entirely destroyed the city with aviation, artillery, and drones, but Ukrainian soldiers are holding positions in the settlement and continue to defend.
