Australia has contributed an additional €6 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. The funds will be distributed to address key urgent needs in Ukraine's energy sector, according to Ukraine's Ministry of Energy.

Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko expressed gratitude to Australian partners for their support of Ukraine and its energy sector during these challenging times.

"We continue to repair and rebuild equipment damaged by the enemy, and thanks to the help of our partners, we are restoring electricity and heat to the homes of millions of Ukrainian families," he said.

It is important to note that in February, the US Department of State terminated the USAID initiative to restore Ukraine’s energy system, into which hundreds of millions of dollars had been invested.

NBC News reported that 64 USAID employees had been working in Ukraine, but following a decision by US President Donald Trump's administration to send nearly all of them on leave and return them to the US, only eight agency staff members would remain in Ukraine.

It should be noted that USAID fell out of favor immediately after Donald Trump's administration took power. RBC-Ukraine wrote that on January 20, 2025, on his first day in office, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order to suspend USAID operations for 90 days.

The decision also mandated a review of all grant aid programs provided by the agency, including USAID’s activities in Ukraine.

This decision led to the cessation of several important programs in Ukraine, including those related to veteran assistance, the construction of new border checkpoints, and more.
