Russian forces attacked Ukrainian territory with 6,900 drones in September, over 3,600 of which were of the Shahed type. Ukraine is deploying measures to counter this threat, according to a statement from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi.

According to Syrskyi, Russian forces are constantly changing their drone tactics. Currently, the enemy is actively attacking the frontline and border areas with drones. The main targets are critical infrastructure and civilian buildings.

In response to the escalation of Russian terrorist attacks, a decision has been made to strengthen air defense in these areas. In particular, the number of interceptor drone crews will be increased.

"Today, most Russian strike drones are destroyed precisely by such means. The systematic expansion of the relevant units continues. Specialist training is being scaled up, and additional training facilities are being created for high-quality exercises," Syrskyi said.

He also noted that the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is currently forming the Air Defense Drone Systems Command. In addition, another direction of countering drones is being developed — attack helicopters and light aircraft are participating in repelling strikes.

"Joint work continues between the Defense Forces and manufacturers to improve and implement new types of interceptor drones. We need to accelerate their development and deployment to the troops, because in the technological race, the enemy constantly upgrades their capabilities," Syrskyi added, noting that all relevant structures have been tasked accordingly.

On the night of October 2, Russia launched 86 strike drones over Ukraine, including Shahed, Gerbera, and other types. Fifty-three enemy targets were neutralized. Drone strikes were recorded in six locations.

On October 1, Russian forces also attempted attacks on Ukraine: due to massive strikes on the energy sector, the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant experienced a blackout. Terrorists also targeted railway infrastructure in Odesa, Kyiv region, and northern Ukraine.
