Armenian PM admits that constitutional changes in Armenia may be needed for peace with Azerbaijan
Armenia may need to amend its constitution to conclude a peace agreement with Azerbaijan. This depends on the decision of the Armenian Constitutional Court, states Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
He noted that if Armenia and Azerbaijan reach a peace agreement, the document will be submitted to the Constitutional Court for review. The Court will assess whether it complies with the country's constitution.
"If our Constitutional Court determines that the agreement contradicts the Armenian Constitution (although our experts assure this is unlikely), we will then face a specific situation where constitutional amendments will be necessary to conclude peace," Pashinyan added.
However, the Armenian Prime Minister clarified that if the Constitutional Court rules that the agreement complies with the Constitution, it can then be ratified.
