The newly elected president of Argentina, Javier Milei, has transferred two helicopters to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to the Financial Times.

According to the material, Milei prefers alliances with "countries that defend freedom," including the United States, Israel, which he visited earlier this month, and Ukraine, to which he donated two military helicopters of Russian production.

Financial Times does not specify which helicopters exactly will be handed over to Ukraine, but it is worth noting that at the end of last year, there was information that Argentina intended to transfer two multi-purpose Mi-171E helicopters to Ukraine, which were previously purchased from Russia.

What is known about the Mi-171E

The multi-purpose helicopter Mi-171E is an upgraded modification of the Mi-8 helicopter. It received an upgraded power plant and a composite rotor, which reduced its weight. The composite rotor allowed for a slight increase in the helicopter's flight characteristics.

It is reported that the Mi-171E is capable of carrying up to five tons in the cargo cabin or slightly more than five tons on an external suspension. The flight range of the machine is 850 km.
