Argentina will not join the BRICS intergovernmental organization, consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Argentina, Diana Mondino.

"We will not enter BRICS," she wrote.

Argentina was among the six countries invited to become new members of BRICS at the summit held in South Africa in August of this year.

BRICS

It is an intergovernmental organization, a union of five states: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

Countries invited to join on January 1, 2024, include Argentina, Egypt, Iran, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia, potentially increasing the membership to eleven.

The organization (a union of states) was founded in June 2006 (as BRIC) during the St. Petersburg Economic Forum with the participation of the ministers of economy from Brazil, Russia, India, and China.

Argentina's new president is against BRICS

Recently, Argentina elected Javier Milei, a right-wing libertarian with radical views, as its new president. He promises to address the economy, which has suffered from triple-digit inflation, impending recession, and increasing poverty.
