Fruit or vegetable smoothies are often recommended by experts for weight loss. But do these drinks actually help shed pounds?

Ukrainian trainer from Lviv, Viktor Mandzyak, answers the question.

Are smoothies necessary for weight loss

The trainer noted that smoothies spend very little time in the oral cavity, unlike whole fruits or vegetables. This matters because the duration that food stays in the mouth correlates with the satiety of the products.

"When food stays in the mouth for a long time, you become saturated with its flavor and tastes, which means you experience sensory satiety. This is one of the factors of satiety," the expert stated.

Viktor added that, furthermore, the brain needs time to feel full, and when you eat an apple slowly, the brain has enough time to make you feel full in time. However, ground-up food leaves the stomach very quickly.
