Any version of a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia will be difficult to accept. However, it would still be preferable to a prolonged war, stated Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, according to Sky News.

Fidan noted that Türkiye supports the US initiative for a full ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. However, the two sides remain a "little bit far away" from reaching any deal.

"It will be extremely difficult to digest any proposal. But when we look at the other option, which is more death and destruction, I think whatever the conditions that we have... will be more reasonable," he said.

He also pointed out that Europe cannot provide security guarantees to Ukraine without US involvement. But such deterrence is necessary because it will help prevent a new war.

"There is a huge effort to get the American side again to engage in security support to Ukraine," Fidan said.

Concessions from Ukraine and Russia

A few weeks ago, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that negotiations between Ukraine and Russia are impossible without concessions from both sides.

Meanwhile, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that peace between Ukraine and Russia would be "some sort of demarcation" that neither side wants to accept.

It is important to note that Ukraine has already outlined its “red lines” in the peace process. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he will not agree to reduce the size of the Ukrainian army, nor will he recognize the temporarily occupied territories as Russian.
