Iran-backed Yemeni Houthis have claimed their first strike on Israel since the outbreak of the Middle East war. Amid new attacks, this could signal that the conflict is expanding beyond direct confrontations between Iran, the US, and Israel, according to Reuters.
In doing so, the group has effectively announced its entry into the conflict, increasing the risk of further escalation in the region.
Earlier, Israel reported it was working to intercept a missile launched from Yemeni territory.
The Houthis also stated they would continue their operations until, in their words, "aggression" ceases on all fronts.
For context, on March 25, Iran struck northern Israel: a ballistic missile landed near the city of Hadera, close to the country’s largest power plant.
The infrastructure itself was not damaged, but during a separate attack, two men suffered shrapnel injuries.
