Airstrike on Zaporizhzhia: Emergency Service shows aftermath of shelling, number of injured increased
In Zaporizhzhia, nine people have been reported injured following a Russian strike, reportedly involving guided aerial bombs late on Sunday, September 22. Among the injured is a child, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES).
It was previously reported that five people were injured in Zaporizhzhia.
Rescuers evacuated residents from damaged apartment buildings, and one woman was freed from her apartment.
The SES also stated that the windows and facades of several residential buildings were damaged. A fire in a vehicle and on the balcony of one apartment, covering an area of 10 square meters, was extinguished.
“A demolition operation was conducted to clear the destroyed structures at the entrances to the apartments,” the emergency services reported.
A total of 47 rescuers and 10 units of equipment were deployed to address the aftermath of the attack in Zaporizhzhia.
"Police, explosives experts, volunteers from the Ukrainian Red Cross’s Rapid Response Team, and other specialized services were working at the scene," the emergency services added.
Additionally, the SES released footage showing the explosion in Zaporizhzhia and the aftermath of the Russian shelling.
Airstrike on Zaporizhzhia
Earlier reports indicated that explosions were heard in Zaporizhzhia around 11 p.m. on September 22. Before this, the Ukrainian Air Force had warned of the threat of enemy airstrikes.
Later, officials from the regional military administration and the National Police in Zaporizhzhia stated that the Russian army had reportedly used guided aerial bombs for the attacks, carrying out six strikes between 10:19 p.m. and 11:04 p.m. in the Zaporizhzhia area.
Furthermore, monitoring groups noted that this appears to be the first instance of the Russian forces specifically using guided aerial bombs against Zaporizhzhia.
