Airstrike on Sudzha: Russian Forces target care home, casualty reported
Russian aviation launched an airstrike on a care home in the city of Sudzha, Kursk region. Elderly people were staying there, the press officer of the military commandant's office in the Kursk region, Oleksii Dmytrashkivskyi reports.
"Last night (January 11, - ed.), Russian aviation launched two airstrikes on the area around the care home in the city of Sudzha. As a result, a woman suffered a laceration to her arm. As of this morning, the woman has passed away," said the spokesperson.
According to him, the care home building was heavily damaged, with all windows and doors shattered.
The spokesperson added that elderly people were staying in the care home, many of them with disabilities.
"The question has arisen about where to relocate these people. All of them are elderly, many of them have disabilities, Parkinson's disease, post-stroke conditions, and one individual has a mental illness. The condition of the people at the moment is quite severe," Dmytrashkivskyi explained.
He added that there are about 2,000 people in Russian-controlled territories currently held by Ukraine. The school-care home, which the Russians shelled, houses over 70 people.
Situation in the Kursk region
It is worth noting that the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched an operation in the Kursk region in August 2024. Over time, the Defense Forces of Ukraine lost some territories, but fighting in the border areas of Russia continues.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Kursk operation was one of Ukraine's main victories during the full-scale war.
Additionally, yesterday, January 11, it became known that the Armed Forces of Ukraine captured the first two North Korean soldiers deployed by Pyongyang to the Kursk region to assist Russia. The captured soldiers were transported to Kyiv.
