Heavy snowfall has disrupted operations at Gdansk airport. Passengers are asked to monitor their flight status and contact their airlines, RMF24 reports.
Snowfall on Saturday and Sunday in Gdansk caused disruptions at Lech Walesa Airport.
Due to heavy snow and strong wind gusts, 14 flights were canceled or diverted to other airports, including flights to Stockholm, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and Warsaw.
According to Airport spokesperson Agnieszka Michajłow, since Saturday evening, weather conditions have made landings difficult, and not all aircraft have been able to land safely.
She also urged passengers to monitor flight status updates and stay in contact with the airline.
Airport services are actively clearing snow, but the weather forecast remains unfavorable. The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) is warning of up to 50 centimeters of snowfall and strong wind gusts that could cause blizzards and snow squalls.
At Schiphol Airport near Amsterdam on Friday, January 2, nearly 450 flights were canceled or delayed due to adverse weather conditions. The main causes of the disruptions were heavy snowfall and strong winds, which complicated aircraft landings and takeoffs.
Earlier, on December 16 last year, a traffic accident involving a bus with Ukrainian registration occurred in Slovakia. Due to adverse weather conditions, the bus left the road and overturned, injuring passengers.
According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the accident occurred on the D1 highway toward Bratislava. The bus was carrying 10 passengers and two drivers, all Ukrainian citizens.
A consul from the Embassy of Ukraine in Slovakia confirmed that the accident was caused by adverse weather conditions that made driving hazardous.
