Air defense systems stop 39 drones as Russia strikes Ukraine from multiple directions

On the night of January 4, Russian forces carried out another attack on Ukraine using strike drones, according to the Air Force.
In total, the enemy launched 52 UAVs, including Shahed-type drones, Gerbera drones, and UAVs of other types.
The attack began at around 7:00 p.m. on January 3. Launches were recorded from the directions of Oryol, Bryansk, and Kursk inside Russia, as well as from Donetsk in temporarily occupied territory. About 40 of the drones were Shaheds.
The air attack was repelled by aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
According to preliminary data, as of 8:00 a.m., air defenses had shot down or suppressed 39 enemy drones in northern and eastern regions of the country.
At the same time, 13 strike drones hit nine locations, and debris from downed UAVs fell at one additional site.
Shelling of Ukraine
On the night of January 3, Russia carried out a large-scale attack on Ukraine, launching 95 strike drones from multiple directions. Air defense forces destroyed 80 drones, while 15 UAVs hit eight locations and debris fell at two more sites.
One of the targets was the Mykolaiv region, where the enemy carried out a massive drone attack on critical infrastructure using Shahed drones. As a result, parts of the Mykolaiv district were left without electricity. Emergency crews have been working since the night to restore power.
In addition, on January 2, Russian forces carried out a missile strike on central Kharkiv using two Iskander ballistic missiles. A five-story residential building and part of the entrance of a four-story building were damaged. There were fatalities and more than 30 people were injured.
