Your iron has broken, and you need to rush to an important meeting in wrinkled clothes? This is not a fatal problem, because it can be solved in other ways. How can you use some rather unexpected items as a substitute for an iron?

Mattress rolling method

When you need to quickly smooth out clothes, try this method. Lay the garment on a bed or flat surface and smooth out the fabric. Roll the clothing into a tight roll, like a sausage, and place a mattress on top. Leave it for 15-20 minutes, and voilà, the wrinkles are gone!

This method works best if you can leave the clothes overnight and sleep on top.

Vinegar spray

If you don’t have a wrinkle release spray, don’t worry! You can quickly make your own solution. Mix one part vinegar with three parts water. Fill a spray bottle with this solution, spray it on your clothes, and let them dry.

Alternatively, mix one cup of distilled vinegar, one teaspoon of fabric conditioner, and one teaspoon of alcohol, and spray it on the wrinkles.

Using a hot pot or kettle as an iron

Since an iron is essentially just a hot metal object, you can create a similar effect by boiling water in a metal pot. Once the water has boiled, pour it out and carefully use the hot surface of the pot to smooth out wrinkles on your clothes.

Be sure to place a towel under the garment to protect your table or floor from the hot pot.

Using a hairdryer

You might find a solution for smoothing clothes in your bathroom. If you have a hairdryer, try hanging the wrinkled garment and lightly spritzing it with water. Then, use the hairdryer to dry the clothing, and the wrinkles should disappear.

Using a hair straightener

Alternatively, if you have a hair straightener, you can use it to dewrinkle your clothes without spraying. Run the hot plates over the wrinkles. This may take longer than using a regular iron due to the smaller surface area of the straightener, but it will get the job done!

A straightener is especially effective for small areas like collars and cuffs.

Using a dryer

The simplest way to get rid of wrinkles without an iron is to use a dryer. Place the wrinkled clothing in the dryer for 5-15 minutes on a low or medium heat setting.

For best results, lightly mist the clothing with water to make it slightly damp, or toss a few ice cubes in with the clothes. It sounds unusual, but it works.
