After testing, 5G connectivity is planned to be launched in Ukraine. The first city where 5G will be fully operational is Lviv, announced Kostiantyn Vechir, Business Development Director for the Corporate Market at Kyivstar Communications, according to "Tvoe Misto"

"We are on the threshold of moving from 4G to 5G. We have already tested the network's performance at our location in Kyiv. The world has long since taken this step— this technology has been operating in Europe for quite some time, while in Ukraine we are still piloting it," he said.

Vechir added that it has already been agreed with the Ministry of Digital Transformation that Lviv will be the first city to see the commercial launch of 5G.

"We are currently at the stage where all pilot tests must be coordinated with the government as part of a comprehensive plan for transitioning to the new technology, which, in principle, should be supported by the entire telecom industry," he explained.

Launch of 5G in Ukraine

Back in May of last year, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov announced that 5G testing had begun in Ukraine.

5G connectivity was launched only at select locations in several Ukrainian cities.

On November 1, 2024, Fedorov noted that Ukraine was launching a pilot 5G project in three cities. The plan includes testing the compatibility of 5G with military equipment.

The minister specified that this pilot project would last for two years.
