A 17-year-old Somali national has been formally charged with the murder of Ukrainian teenager Vadym Davydenko in north Dublin, according to RTE.

The 17-year-old suspect, whose name has not been released due to his age, appeared before a judge at Dublin District Court on October 18.

He was remanded in custody and transferred to Oberstown Detention Centre in Dublin.

The defense lawyer requested that his client receive urgent psychiatric and medical care while in custody, but did not apply for bail.

The accused is scheduled to reappear before the Children’s Court on Tuesday, October 21.

Ukrainian teenager Vadym Davydenko was fatally stabbed inside a state-run child protection facility on October 15, around 11 AM Kyiv time. He had arrived in Ireland just days earlier, seeking asylum.

The Ukrainian Embassy in Ireland stated that it is assisting with the repatriation of the victim’s body to Ukraine and remains in close contact with Irish police investigating the case, as well as with the victim’s family.
