159 injured, 28 killed, 5 kids among dead: Zelenskyy calls Russian strike one of most brutal yet

Russia carried out one of its most brutal strikes on Kyiv during the night of July 31, with a missile directly hitting a residential high-rise, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his evening address.
The head of state stated that today, August 1, search operations at the site of the missile strike on a residential building in Kyiv have been completed.
He recalled that as a result of the attack on the residential building, 28 people were killed. Among them were five children — born in 2007, 2011, 2014, 2018, and even 2022.
"This was one of the most brutal Russian strikes on Kyiv. A total of 159 people were injured. Ordinary homes, businesses, even one of Kyiv's mosques were hit. There was no military purpose," Zelenskyy emphasized.
He added that many around the world have supported Ukraine and condemned Russian terror. At the same time, proposals for a ceasefire have long been on the table from both Ukraine and the United States. These have already been communicated to the Russians on multiple occasions.
"Each time, there is only an attempt from their side to buy more time for war, more time for terror. Russia does not operate any other way. It is very important now that the prospect of new sanctions — strong sanctions — is beginning to pressure Russia. And not only against the aggressor state itself. All Russian financial flows, every scheme that fills the Russian budget, must become a target for peace," the president emphasized.
Strike on Kyiv
During the night of July 31, Russian forces attacked Kyiv not only with missiles but also with drones.
In the Sviatoshynskyi district, a missile strike destroyed the entrance section of a residential high-rise.
As explained by Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko, 28 people were killed because the blast wave was so powerful that the floors collapsed.
