‘We sell equipment to NATO,’ Trump says US won’t spend on Ukraine anymore

US President Donald Trump stated that the United States is no longer spending money on the war in Ukraine. NATO is now purchasing military equipment for Kyiv, the Daily Caller reports.
According to Trump, the US had spent hundreds of billions of dollars on the war in Ukraine. However, Washington has now achieved a point where NATO is buying weapons for Ukraine, and the military alliance has increased its defense spending to 5% of its GDP.
“Now we sell equipment to NATO. I got them to go from two to five (defense spending from 2% to 5% - ed.) Nobody thought that was, and pay. We sell equipment to NATO. We don’t sell it to Ukraine. We sell it to NATO. They pay for the equipment. We’re not spending any money on the war. That’s some difference, right there," said the US President.
Trump also repeated that he does not plan to send US troops to Ukraine, though he supports providing security guarantees.
"I don’t think it can be settled without a security guarantee of some kind, and we’re not going to have boots on the ground or anything else. But if we can help Europe, and you know, they’ll, they’ll be out there. They want to, they want to see it get settled, but if we can help them, I’d be willing to do that," Trump said.
New US approach to war
Recently, the United States of America and NATO have launched a new mechanism for providing military aid to Ukraine through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative.
This mechanism ensures that all US weapons provided to Ukraine are paid for by European countries.
A few weeks ago, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that through the PURL initiative, $1.5 billion had been raised, which will be spent on purchasing weapons for Ukraine.
