Explosions were reported again in Russia on the evening of December 28 and overnight into December 29. The Khanskaya airbase in the city of Maykop was reportedly hit, while Tula may have been targeted by a ballistic strike, according to Russian channels.
According to reports from social media channels, unidentified drones began attacking the city of Maykop in Russia’s Republic of Adygea shortly after 11:00 PM.
Subsequent reports уточнили that the target was the Khanskaya airbase. Based on available information, the facility appears to have been targeted by drones. Footage from Maykop was also circulated online.
Around the same time, another video circulated on social media showing the sound of a flying drone followed by an explosion. The footage is said to have been recorded in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, though the exact location remains unclear.
Several hours later, at around 3:00 AM, the SHOT Telegram channel reported a series of explosions in the Russian city of Tula. Residents said a missile alert had been issued in the region and that they heard around 14 explosions.
Several social media channels also claimed that a ballistic missile had allegedly been intercepted. However, it remains unclear whether such a missile was actually heading toward Tula, if it existed at all, or whether the explosions were linked to a missile launch from within Russia.
As of the time of publication, there have been no official comments regarding any of the incidents mentioned above, and the consequences of the attacks remain unknown.
Strikes inside Russia
Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck the Khanskaya airbase back in October 2024.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and sources cited by RBC-Ukraine, the airbase hosted Su-34 and Su-35 fighter jets, Mi-8 helicopters, and other aircraft. Following that strike, a large-scale fire and ammunition detonations were reported at the facility.
Sources in the Security Service of Ukraine said the Russian military had used the airbase to refuel aircraft and launch strikes against Ukraine.
RBC-Ukraine also previously reported that on the night of December 28, Ukraine’s Defense Forces hit the Syzran Oil Refinery and several other facilities used by Russian forces.
