The meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (the Ramstein format), originally scheduled for October 12, has been postponed and may take place by the end of the month, stated Mikhailo Podolyak, an advisor to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, in a comment to the YouTube channel RBC-Ukraine.

Podolyak commented on the postponement of the Ramstein meeting because US President Joe Biden, who was supposed to chair the meeting, postponed his visit to Germany due to Hurricane Milton.

"This does not cancel two things. First, important decisions will be made in October - decisions of a legal, military-legal, and military-political nature. On the one hand, and on the other hand, the Ramstein meeting will still take place. Most likely, it will happen in October; the date will just change," he emphasized.

According to Podolyak, it is currently important for Ukraine to insist on a few things. First is the understanding that Russia can be forced into a certain negotiation process through military means. It's possible to discuss what those instruments should be at the Ramstein meeting.

He also added that Ukraine needs to remain a subject that moderates the entire process regarding the war and necessary resources. Additionally, Ukraine must remain a key topic of global discussion.

At the same time, Podolyak refrained from predicting whether there could be sensational decisions at the Ramstein meeting regarding permission for strikes deep into Russia or inviting Ukraine to NATO.

"Such decisions are called sensational precisely because they can only be announced at the Ramstein meeting, as this would be an absolute manifestation of the political leadership of the respective state leaders," he stressed.

Postponement of Ramstein meeting

On October 8, the White House press service announced that President Biden decided to postpone his visit to Germany due to Hurricane Milton. He was to participate in the Ramstein meeting there.

Today, on October 9, a source told RBC-Ukraine that the decision to postpone the meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group had been made. The exact date is still being determined.
