Recently, Russia has been launching more Shahed kamikaze drones at Ukraine than before. There could be two reasons for this.

Aviation expert Kostiantyn Kryvolap explains this in a comment to the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel.

"I'm surprised by the large number of Shaheds flying around. This indicates that the Russians either have new production capabilities or that their previously established production has reached new levels of assembly and fuselage production," Kryvolap said.

He noted that the number of Shaheds that Russia is launching at Ukraine is now significantly higher than before.

"And it's significantly more than what was agreed upon between Russia and Tehran, which in 2022 was set at six thousand Shaheds. They have probably already exceeded that number. And the contract doesn't end until May 2025," the expert added.

Attacks on Ukraine

Russian troops launch Shahed kamikaze drones at Ukraine every night.

On the night of September 16, Russian forces carried out a large-scale attack on Ukraine using Shahed drones.

From 8:00 PM on September 15 to 6:00 AM on September 16, the radio-technical troops of the Ukrainian Air Force detected and tracked 56 enemy drones launched from Russian territory (Kursk and Yeisk).

53 of these strike drones were destroyed in various regions, including Kyiv, Cherkasy, Vinnytsia, Poltava, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
