Russian President Vladimir Putin will try to "reprogram" US President Donald Trump to end the war with Ukraine on Moscow's terms, political analyst Volodymyr Fesenko stated in a comment to the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel.

The political analyst emphasized that Trump and Putin have not yet agreed on anything except for preparing a personal meeting, which may take place in Saudi Arabia.

At the same time, Fesenko noted that he is concerned about Trump's "euphoria" regarding Putin. The American leader always says that he is "winning" and that "everything is fine." And after his conversation with Putin, it seems that "there will be peace in a little while", but this is not entirely true.

According to him, the American logic is to achieve a ceasefire, then hold elections in Ukraine, and conclude a long-term peace agreement. However, Putin is not going to stop military actions and insists on a "stable peace agreement."

"Of course, Putin wants this to be a peace agreement on Russian terms. There is undoubtedly a risk here. I see the risk that Putin, particularly through personal contacts, meetings with Trump, and such phone conversations, will 'work on' Trump. He will try to reprogram Trump according to Russian conditions for ending the war," Fesenko clarified.

He emphasized that for this reason, Ukraine must insist that negotiations on ending the war take place with its participation. This needs to be firmly stated both publicly and privately.

In the political analyst’s opinion, Trump is not yet planning to negotiate without Ukraine, as he called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy immediately after his conversation with Putin.

"If Zelenskyy were of no interest to him and he intended to negotiate only with Putin, he would not have called Zelenskyy. And he (Trump) has always said that his formula is: 'It takes two to tango.' He means Russia and Ukraine," he added.

Trump's talks with Putin

Yesterday, on February 12, US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Russia’s war against Ukraine was one of the topics discussed.

After the conversation, Trump wrote that the Kremlin leader supposedly wants to end the war, just like Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
