More weapons on way? Why EU brings up lifting restrictions on Ukraine for strikes on Russia

Europe, including Germany, no longer has restrictions on supplying weapons to Ukraine, including Taurus cruise missiles, states historian and diplomat Roman Bezsmertnyi in a comment to RBC-Ukraine’s YouTube channel.
According to him, this likely indicates systematic preparation for large-scale deliveries.
"We can now clearly state that there are no restrictions," Bezsmertnyi said.
He added that decisions regarding weapons are being made, and discussions are kept to a minimum: "It’s necessary to create a situation in which decisions are made, and only those who need to know are informed."
According to the expert, Europe is now assuming commitments that were previously carried out by the United States in the context of assistance to Ukraine.
He also drew attention to the large-scale NATO exercises that took place in the Baltic region and northern Europe over the past month. According to him, the results of these drills formed the basis for the decision by the United States and European Command to significantly increase military aid.
"A detailed analysis of the situation during the exercises revealed a shortage of ammunition and personnel, as well as an unpreparedness to integrate advanced weaponry into the armed forces," he said.
At the same time, the expert emphasized that the Ukrainian army has become an example for allies in terms of how quickly it adapts to modern weapons.
As for the use of weapons, he stressed that details will be made public only after confirmed use on the battlefield: "When and how to use them, and against which targets — that’s up to the military. They know best."
Permission for long-range strikes
Earlier, Western media reported that the administration of former US President Joe Biden had decided to allow Ukraine to use US-supplied weapons to strike targets on Russian territory.
France and the United Kingdom also granted Ukraine permission to carry out strikes deep inside Russian territory using their SCALP and Storm Shadow missiles. These decisions followed the US approval.
Just yesterday, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that Ukraine faces no restrictions on striking Russian territory from Germany, France, the UK, or the US.
