Expert predicts when Russia's next massive strike may occur
The military constantly monitors signs of Russia preparing for a possible new strike on Ukraine. However, this does not necessarily mean that an attack will occur, military expert and retired Armed Forces of Ukraine major Oleksii Hetman shared this in a comment to the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel.
"You know, when there are signs of something, it doesn't necessarily mean it will happen. And when we say, 'there are all the signs of an air attack by the Russians' and these attacks don't occur, some people start saying, 'see, your prediction didn't come true.' So I want to emphasize right away that there are signs — 100% signs — that air attacks are being prepared in this way. But this does not mean they will definitely happen," Hetman said.
According to him, Russia needs about a month between attacks to produce the necessary number of missiles used in a massive strike. This means that if there are no air attacks for two months, the Russian forces could launch more missiles or carry out two attacks within a few days interval.
"Therefore, they usually cannot do this in less than a month because there would be too few means of destruction, and the attack would lose its purpose. So, when a month has passed since the previous attack, it can be expected that the attack may happen any day — or it may not. But it will still occur after a month or two," Hetman emphasized.
Large-scale attack on Ukraine
Since the beginning of last autumn, the Russian army has increased the number of large-scale attacks on Ukraine. As before, Russia's primary target remains Ukraine's critical infrastructure.
Notably, a massive strike occurred on December 13. On that day, Russia launched 287 aerial attack assets against Ukraine — 94 missiles and 193 drones. Then, on December 25, Russian forces carried out their 13th massive strike on Ukrainian energy facilities since the start of the year.
The last missile attack by Russia took place on the eve of the New Year; however, drone strikes have not stopped.
On the night of January 13, the Russian Federation used 110 Shahed-type strike drones and decoy drones against Ukraine. The air defense managed to destroy 78 of them.
