On December 13, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine, primarily targeting the energy infrastructure. Ukrainian air defense forces shot down more than 160 drones and missiles out of nearly 300 targets launched by the enemy, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.

In particular, Russia carried out a combined air attack on Ukraine with missiles of various types and strike drones.

"In total, the Air Force radar troops detected 287 enemy air attack targets during this period - 94 missiles and 193 UAVs," the report says.

Among them are:

  • 4 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles launched from MiG-31K fighters (from the Tambov region).
  • 2 Iskander-M ballistic missiles (from the Bryansk region, Crimea).
  • 1 KN-23 ballistic missile (from the Bryansk region).
  • 55 Kh-101, Kh-55SM cruise missiles launched from Tu-95MS strategic bombers (from the Volgograd region).
  • 24 Kalibr cruise missiles (launched from the Black Sea).
  • 7 Iskander-K cruise missiles (launched from the Voronezh and Rostov regions).
  • 1 Kh-59/Kh-69 guided missile (from the Luhansk region).
  • 193 Shahed drones and unidentified UAVs (launched from the directions of Kursk, Primorsk-Akhtarsk, Orel, Bryansk, and Millerovo).

Air defense response

Ukraine's air defense intercepted the assault using anti-aircraft missile forces, aviation, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups. The F-16 fighter jets also played a significant role in downing the missiles and drones.

As of 11:30 a.m. Kyiv time, the confirmed intercepted targets were:

  • 80 cruise missiles (Kh-101, Kh-55SM, Kalibr, Iskander-K).

  • 1 Iskander-M ballistic missile.

  • 80 Shahed drones and unidentified UAVs.

In addition, 105 enemy drones were prevented from reaching their targets through active countermeasures by Ukrainian forces. 5 drones returned to Russia, and 1 returned to Belarus.

This attack was yet another in a series of missile and drone strikes aimed primarily at Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
