EU membership before 2030? Ukrainian Minister reveals new timeline for Ukraine’s readiness

Ukraine aims to fully meet the criteria for European Union membership by 2027. The country is currently staying on track with its planned timeline, stated Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Olha Stefanishyna.
Stefanishyna was asked whether it could be said with certainty that Ukraine would become an EU member by 2030.
She emphasized that she has a clear timeline that Ukraine is following. At the same time, Ukraine’s vision aligns with that of several EU member states.
"I can’t share the full timeline, but I can say that all commitments that do not require transitional periods or special exemptions are expected to be fulfilled by 2027," she added.
Ukraine’s EU accession timeline
Previously, EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarína Mathernová told RBC-Ukraine in a brief interview that if Ukraine maintains its current pace of preparations, the country could join the European Union by 2030.
Meanwhile, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys emphasized that Ukraine’s accession to the EU by 2030 should be a common goal for all European nations.
Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo also stated that 2030 should be the latest possible deadline for Ukraine’s EU membership.
The start of Ukraine’s accession talks is currently being blocked by Hungary. Kyiv has already agreed on regular communication with Budapest to resolve this issue.
