Zelenskyy warns Ukrainians to brace for possible fierce Russian retaliation in coming days

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on citizens to take air raid alerts seriously in the coming days.
"I thank everyone who is fighting for Ukraine, and everyone who works for our state and our people. And be sure to pay attention to air raid alerts these days. Please take care of yourselves," Zelenskyy said.
Background
On Sunday, June 1, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) carried out a rare operation targeting Russian strategic bombers.
Drones struck four military bases: Belaya, Dyagilevo, Olenya, and Ivanovo. Later, SBU Chief Vasyl Malyuk, who personally oversaw the mission, said more than 40 Russian strategic aircraft had been hit.
The SBU added that the strike affected 34% of Russia’s strategic cruise missile carriers. In monetary terms, that amounts to roughly $7 billion.
A few days later, on June 4, Ukrainian forces conducted another operation, this time targeting the Crimean Bridge. Explosives were planted on the bridge supports. The first device detonated at 4:44 AM local time, causing severe damage to underwater structures at the base of the pillars.
Shortly afterward, a call took place between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Following the conversation, Trump said Putin would respond to the Ukrainian strike.
On June 6 overnight, Russia launched a large-scale drone and missile attack on Ukraine. Explosions were reported in Kyiv and other cities. In recent days, Kharkiv also came under its most intense attack since the start of the war.
Overnight, Reuters reported that, according to US officials, Russia has not yet delivered a full-scale response to the drone strikes on its air bases. They believe the Kremlin is preparing a major multi-pronged attack. One source said a new strike could happen within days.
