President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin has become "obsessed with Shahed drones." As a result, Zelenskyy said, Russia must be stripped of its logistics infrastructure. He made the remarks during his evening address.

The president emphasized that the attack on Kyiv was particularly intense, with Ukrainian air defense managing to shoot down a significant number of Russian Shahed drones and missiles.

"Each wave of Russian strikes is a reminder of two things," Zelenskyy said. "Air defense: we need more systems and broader coverage across our country. And our long-range strikes on Russia: if Putin is so obsessed with Shaheds and terror, then they must be left without logistics."

He stressed that everyone working to protect lives and limit Russia's military potential is contributing to the pursuit of peace.

Zelenskyy also thanked international partners advancing new, tougher sanctions against Russia, including secondary ones. He noted that despite Moscow's bravado, the sanctions are working and that Russia must end its aggression.

"Russia must end this war — the one it started. No one but Russia needs it. There will be peace. I thank everyone standing with Ukraine. I thank our defenders. And one more thing," the president concluded.

Attack on Ukraine

On the night of July 21, Russia launched a massive aerial assault on Ukraine, deploying 426 drones and 24 missiles. Ukrainian air defenses successfully destroyed or suppressed 224 aerial targets.

The attack targeted multiple regions, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Ivano-Frankivsk. In the capital, a series of explosions were recorded over several hours.

In the Kyiv region, according to the State Emergency Service (SES), the strike caused a major fire: a 300-square-meter administrative building and a 1,200-square-meter warehouse in the Fastiv district were engulfed in flames.
