Ukraine is waiting for the U.S. decision on military aid. This is critically important at the moment, President Zelenskyy states.

Zelenskyy said that over the past month, Ukraine has had good dynamics in terms of defense packages.

"Of course, we need more to achieve control in the sky and greater capabilities on the ground, especially artillery. But, no matter how difficult it is, we have supplies of artillery, missiles, and ammunition for air defense. I thank every country that supports our soldiers and the protection of Ukrainian lives," the president said.

According to Zelenskyy, thanks to the help of partners, hundreds of Russian missiles and drones have been shot down this month.

"We continue to work with our partners. We are waiting for the appropriate decision of the United States of America - this is critically important," the president emphasized.

Questions about U.S. financial assistance to Ukraine

In October 2023, U.S. President Joe Biden submitted a bill to Congress for $106 billion in aid to Israel and Ukraine, as well as allies in the Asia-Pacific region. Of this amount, $61.3 billion was proposed to be allocated to Ukraine and $14.3 billion to Israel.

However, in December, the Senate blocked the start of debate on this aid package. The reason was the Republicans' demand to include in the bill a tougher set of measures to protect the southern border of the United States with Mexico.

According to The Guardian, meanwhile, Congress has finalized the text of an agreement on the U.S.-Mexico border, which would be crucial for the resumption of funding for military assistance to Ukraine. The text of the document is expected to be made public in the coming days.
