Ukraine needs US support in the field of long-range weapons. Even the mere presence of such weapons in the hands of Ukrainian soldiers could serve as a deterrent, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during his address at the EU Enlargement Summit.
The head of the Ukrainian state drew attention to the fact that Russia is now seeking a military victory over Ukraine. However, this will never happen if Europe continues to exert pressure on the aggressor.
"The United States of America need to be open to the opportunities of long -distance weapons, long -range weapons. That is very important. Even as a deterring factor. We need to have it to use it,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
The president added that on this issue, Ukraine needs the support of the US and personally, that of American leader Donald Trump.
Zelenskyy also noted that the new sanctions imposed by Trump against Russia were very important, but this should not be the final step.
"We need secondary sanctions, we need following stronger gas sanctions, and also against nuclear generation of Russian Federation," he clarified.
Tomahawk for Ukraine
During the most recent meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US President Donald Trump refused to allow the supply of long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.
According to Western media, this surprised European officials, who had expected the American leader to give the "green light."
Earlier, CNN, citing sources, reported that the Pentagon had approved shipments of Tomahawks to Ukraine, as it would not significantly affect US military capabilities. But the final decision rests with Trump.
