Zelenskyy urges stronger ties with China to limit Russia's influence

During a meeting with Ukrainian ambassadors, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined new foreign policy priorities. He identified the development of relations with China as one of the country's key diplomatic objectives.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed Ukrainian diplomats to step up efforts to develop relations with China. According to him, this is necessary to prevent Beijing from fully supporting Russia.
"We need to seek dialogue with China if we do not want China to fully support the Russians. If it sees its future with Russia and does not see other countries there, then all of this needs to be built," Zelenskyy said.
The president also noted that Ukraine has already achieved positive results in developing relations with a number of countries, including the Philippines, but said this work must continue.
"We need to restore all of this and complete the work," he stressed.
Separately, Zelenskyy instructed diplomats to pay greater attention to Syria.
According to him, the country is undergoing a period of transformation following the change of regime, and Ukraine was among the first countries to support the new Syrian authorities. Therefore, cooperation with Damascus should be strengthened.
In addition, the president said Ukraine needs a stronger presence in Latin American countries. He also expressed hope that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Office of the President, would present a new strategy for developing relations with African countries.
Earlier, The Economist reported that China is studying Russia's experience in the war against Ukraine.
According to the publication, Chinese military personnel are undergoing training at military ranges in Russia, while Moscow is also sharing military technologies and data on the use of Western weapons with Beijing.
