Zelenskyy to receive peace plan updates only in person as security concerns rise

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has not yet seen the new amendments to the peace plan. Due to the risk of eavesdropping, National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov will personally bring them from the United States and explain the details of the negotiations, according to RBC-Ukraine's sources.
In particular, the issue of territories remains one of the most difficult points in discussions on the draft peace plan.
"Initially, the peace plan had 28 points, then in Geneva it was cut to 20. After the negotiations in Moscow, our delegation saw further changes in Florida and discussed them with the Americans. There are difficult issues in the talks, especially concerning territory, and this requires work," the source said.
Thus, Umerov will be able to brief the president of Ukraine only today on all the details of the US–Russian negotiations in Moscow and on Washington’s reaction to Ukraine’s amendments to the draft peace plan. Umerov will arrive in London, where Zelenskyy is currently on a visit.
"This cannot be done over the phone — we see how much is being intercepted. And only now will they be able to speak in person," the source explained.
At the same time, the source added that Umerov constantly reports to the president of Ukraine on the course of all negotiations.
"But he needs to look at all draft documents — there is more than one," the source added.
US peace plan for Ukraine and Zelenskyy's diplomatic week
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy yesterday announced the start of a week of diplomacy, during which Ukraine is to hold a series of consultations with European leaders.
The main focus is on security issues, strengthening defense capabilities — particularly air defense systems — as well as securing long-term funding for Ukraine.
Discussions of joint positions in negotiations and coordination with partners are also expected.
As a reminder, in recent days, Ukrainian officials held another round of talks with the American side regarding the peace plan, after representatives of Donald Trump — Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner — discussed peace proposals with dictator Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
According to Kremlin statements, the meeting focused only on the documents' essence and territorial issues; the specific wording of the American proposals was allegedly not discussed.
Currently, Umerov and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andrii Hnatov are heading to London to personally brief Zelenskyy on the results of the Americans’ negotiations in Moscow.
Zelenskyy has meetings scheduled with European leaders in London, after which he will travel to Brussels.
