Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit Italy today, January 9. He will have several meetings, including with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, ANSA reports.

According to the news agency, the Ukrainian president is expected at the Palazzo Chigi (the official residence of the Italian prime minister) at 07:30 PM local time (08:30 PM Kyiv time).

ANSA also clarifies that on January 10, at 10:00 AM local time (11:00 AM Kyiv time), Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet with Italian President Sergio Mattarella at his residence.

Ukrainian President's spokesperson Serhii Nikiforov shared in a comment to RBC-Ukraine that Zelenskyy has already arrived in Italy.

Nikiforov also confirmed that the Ukrainian president will meet with Meloni today and with Mattarella tomorrow.

According to the spokesperson, Zelenskyy plans to discuss the following topics in Italy:

  • Defense support for Ukraine
  • The Ukraine recovery conference to be held in Rome on July 10-11
  • Ukraine's NATO membership
  • Cooperation within the G7, including on sanctions.

Zelenskyy's visit to Germany

Today, January 9, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Germany. He arrived at the Ramstein military base to participate in the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting.

The Ukrainian president held separate meetings with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.

During the Ramstein meeting, the US announced a new military aid package to Ukraine worth $500 million. This package is the last one for Ukrainian soldiers from the Biden administration.

Poland also announced a military aid package for Ukraine. Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz did not reveal what exactly his country plans to provide to Ukraine.
