Zelenskyy talks with EU Council head, invites him to visit Ukraine
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a conversation with the President of the European Council Charles Michel today, November 2, according to the statement of the head of Ukraine.
"I had a phone conversation with Charles Michel and congratulated him on the 30th anniversary of the Maastricht Treaty," the statement reads.
It is noted that they focused their dialogue on the upcoming meeting of the European Council in December 2023 and Ukraine's achievements in implementing seven recommendations.
"We agreed that the EU will become even stronger with Ukraine. I invited my interlocutor to visit our country," the president added.
Ukraine's EU accession
Ukraine was granted candidate status for EU accession last year. The country must fulfill a series of conditions to become a full-fledged member of the bloc.
Today it became known that in November, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, is expected to visit Ukraine. This visit will take place on the eve of the results announcement of the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU.
