Zelenskyy spoke with Biden, discussing the situation at front and in Congress
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke by phone with US President Joe Biden. The two leaders discussed the frontline and the situation in the US Congress regarding assistance to Ukraine.
"We discussed the current situation on the battlefield. I am glad that I can count on the full support of the American President. We also believe in the wise decision of the US Congress. Support for Ukraine is support for democracy and freedom. We must work together to protect these values," Zelenskyy said after his conversation with Biden.
In addition, according to the president, he agreed with Biden to keep in touch as the second anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine approaches.
Issues of assistance to Ukraine in the US Congress
On February 13, the US Senate approved a bill to fund aid to Ukraine, as well as Israel and Taiwan. In particular, more than $60 billion is provided for Ukraine.
In order for the bill to become law, it must still be approved by the US House of Representatives and signed by President Joe Biden.
House Speaker Mike Johnson opposed the initiative. In turn, President Joe Biden called on the House of Representatives to urgently approve the bill.
However, the US House of Representatives adjourned until February 28, thus postponing consideration of the aid for Ukraine.
