A Russian attack on Ukraine has damaged the facade of Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv. Russia produces nothing but disasters, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his evening address.

Military briefings

Zelenskyy said he received updates from the military and held a separate conversation with Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. Discussions focused on countering drones and strengthening air defense.

The President also reminded that Russia once again used North Korean ballistic missiles in its latest strike on Ukraine. Meanwhile, Russian-Iranian drone technologies are now being exported to North Korea. This is extremely dangerous for both Europe and East and Southeast Asia.

"The longer this war continues on our land, the more combat technologies will change, and the greater the threat will become for everyone. This must be addressed now, not when thousands of advanced Shaheds and ballistic missiles begin threatening Seoul and Tokyo," Zelenskyy stressed.

Reaction to the strike

President Zelenskyy also noted that today's Russian attack damaged residential buildings. In Odesa, a maternity hospital and a film studio were partially destroyed.

Meanwhile, in Kyiv, even the Saint Sophia Cathedral was damaged - a section of its facade collapsed due to the blast wave.

"For everyone who truly knows history and values Christianity, even the threat of damage or destruction to St. Sophia Cathedral is completely unacceptable, a catastrophe. But not for Russia. Fanatics with Shaheds and a red button," the President said.

According to Zelenskyy, disasters are Russia's sense of purpose - they will leave nothing else behind. This must be addressed because the whole world benefits if Russia is forced to end this war," he added.

Russian strike

On the night of June 10, Russia attacked Ukraine with missiles and drones. Most of the drones and all of the missiles were aimed at Kyiv.

Later, it became known that the Russian strike damaged St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv. It may take a little over a month to restore it.
