The minerals deal between Ukraine and the United States is the first outcome of the meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump at the Vatican, Zelenskyy said during his evening address.

Zelenskyy was already briefed on the signing of the minerals deal between Ukraine and the US.

"The agreement changed significantly during the preparation process. Now it is an equitable agreement that creates opportunities for substantial investment in Ukraine and, in addition, for the significant modernization of production in Ukraine and, just as important, for the modernization of legal practices in our country,” the President said.

According to him, the agreement includes the creation of a Reconstruction Fund that will invest in Ukraine.

"We spoke with the President of the United States, with Donald Trump, about our readiness to agree - we discussed it during our meeting at the Vatican. In fact, we now have the first result of the Vatican meeting, which makes it historical,” Zelenskyy said.

He also noted that the meeting with Trump was meaningful and fully utilized.

"I am grateful for that. And once again, I thank our teams, both Ukrainian and American. The work on the agreement was really professional, and although the negotiations were at times difficult, the result is strong,” he emphasized.

Ukraine and the US sign minerals deal

The economic partnership agreement, centered around access to mineral resources, was introduced as part of Ukraine’s Victory Plan. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously emphasized that Ukraine holds significant reserves of minerals, including strategically important resources.

According to Western media, this clause of the agreement was designed for Donald Trump, who emphasized that US aid should not be provided as a gift.

Initially, the two countries planned to sign a framework agreement, followed by a deal establishing an investment fund. At the end of March, the United States offered Ukraine a revised version of the deal that is no longer a framework agreement. This version now requires ratification by the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament - ed.).
