The possibilities for US President Donald Trump to intensify pressure on Vladimir Putin remain significant. The priority should be to reduce Moscow's oil and gas revenues, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing Vladyslav Vlasiuk, Advisor and Presidential Commissioner for Sanctions Policy of Ukraine.

“These tariff restrictions - increasing tariffs on Russian metals, fertilizers, and other goods. Strengthening secondary sanctions against companies that help Russia circumvent restrictions, blocking new banks, asset confiscation, and limiting access to critical technologies should also be part of the strategy. Further sanctions are a key lever for forcing the Kremlin to engage in fair negotiations,” Vlasiuk lists.

However, according to the Ukrainian advisor, the priority should be to reduce Russia's oil and gas revenues by counteracting the shadow fleet, stricter control over the price cap, and increasing the cost of extraction.

After his inauguration, Trump threatened Russia with new tariffs, duties, and sanctions if Putin did not stop the war against Ukraine.

As President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated, if President Trump has the will to force Putin to come to peace, he can do it. According to Zelenskyy, Trump's rhetoric toward Putin and negotiations is fair.

Moreover, on February 2, Trump announced that his administration had planned a series of meetings and negotiations, including with Ukraine, Russia, and “various parties.”
