Zelenskyy: 'Russia must acknowledge its crimes and go to hell'
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Kyiv, stated that Russia must come to terms with the crimes it is committing in Ukraine. In the context of potential peace negotiations, it would be preferable if the aggressor country "went to hell."
"Where should Russia go? Preferably, to hell. It would be good if they understood what they are doing — they are killing us, and we are defending ourselves and fighting the enemy," Zelenskyy said.
He noted that Ukraine’s plans remain unchanged.
"Of course, we very much want to be stronger so that this war ends in 2025. Excuse my undiplomatic language," the president added.
Ukraine-Russia negotiations
Ukraine and Russia are not currently holding peace talks.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that the only negotiations between Ukraine and Russia concern prisoner exchanges.
However, Western media reported that the two sides had allegedly begun "preliminary discussions to suspend strikes on each other’s energy infrastructure" with Qatari mediation. Both Ukraine and the Kremlin denied these claims.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump recently stated that on his first day back in the White House, he would aim to bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table. Zelenskyy, in turn, warned the US against a "quick" resolution to the war.
