President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has named the partner that is currently supporting Ukraine more than the United States in the interview with the German TV channel ZDF.
Merz is the closest ally
Ahead of the interview, the Ukrainian President met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz as part of bilateral government consultations in Berlin. Following the talks, the countries agreed to deepen their strategic partnership.
"Germany is undoubtedly the largest strategic partner in Europe," Zelenskyy said.
The Chancellor is also pushing for the disbursement of a €90 billion EU loan to Ukraine, which is still being blocked by Hungary.
The US is focused on Iran, not Ukraine
Zelenskyy explained why the American side has effectively stepped back from active work on Ukraine. According to him, two key negotiators — Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff — are focused on the Iran track.
"They are in constant contact with Iran and do not have time for Ukraine," Zelenskyy said.
The war with Iran is affecting Ukraine
Zelenskyy said directly that the war in the Middle East has consequences for Ukraine.
"If the war drags on, there will be fewer weapons for Ukraine," the President said.
In Zelenskyy’s view, Washington is holding a more constructive dialogue with Moscow than with its European allies. Europe’s role in the negotiation process remains uncertain.
"And I see no signs that the United States wants that," he added.
The United Kingdom has announced plans to deliver at least 120,000 drones to Ukraine in 2026. This is the largest drone package from London since the start of the full-scale war.
The deliveries will also include artillery shells and thousands of air defense missiles, with a total value of £3 billion.
Meanwhile, Brussels is urgently pressing G7 partners to speed up the disbursement of a €45 billion loan to Ukraine. The United States and Japan have not yet transferred their shares.
